Totally Organized Tuesday: Pantry Chalkboard

Out of all the projects I have done so far in my new house, this is probably my favorite. Granted we have only been here a little over a month so I am sure there will be many more favorites to come. It all started with me wanting a convenient place for me to store my grocery list. I first though I would hang a clipboard on the door but then I got the idea to paint chalkboard paint on the doors. Problem was...I didn't want it to be permanent in case I didn't like it. Then I saw a blog post where someone was using chalkboard contact  paper on their walls and BINGO that was just what I needed. It is easy to apply and if I get tired of it(which I don't think I ever will) I can easily remove it with no harm done to the doors.

Here is the finished product. All I needed to apply the chalkboard contact paper is a exacto knife to make it fit in the panels, a credit card to smooth out the lumps, and chalk to "cure" the chalkboard so that chalk will adhere to it better.  To cure the chalkboard, you take the side of a piece of chalk and color the whole chalkboard then erase and your writing will show up better. Easy Peasy! I cut the letters with my Silhouette but those could have easily been written with chalk also.

On the left side I put my menu for the week. This is mainly for me, so I remember what I bought the groceries to make.  On the bottom I put one of my favorite quotes "I can do ANYTHING but I can't do EVERYTHING."

On the right side I have my grocery list. I really only needed to do two panels one for the menu and one for my grocery list but when my boys are old enough to not dump all the cheerios out everytime the pantry is opened draw I will let them use the two bottom chalkboards.
If you have been following my blog for  awhile you probably recognize these bins from my pantry at my old house.
I made the labels with the help of my silhouette, some scrapbook paper and ribbon.

Hope this gives you some inspiration to get your pantry organized. It will make grocery shopping and meal planning a little easier because you can easily see what you have and what you need. No more wasting money on things you already have.

What an awesome idea! I could do this on ALL my cabinet doors. Calendars, schedules, phone numbers...they could all go on something like that.:) Lol, I'd do mine on high cabinets so that I can leave it open without my daughter doing the Cheerio trick.:)

good day queenofiwasgonna.blogspot.com blogger found your blog via search engine but it was hard to find and I see you could have more visitors because there are not so many comments yet. I have found website which offer to dramatically increase traffic to your site http://xrumerservice.org they claim they managed to get close to 1000 visitors/day using their services you could also get lot more targeted traffic from search engines as you have now. I used their services and got significantly more visitors to my site. Hope this helps :) They offer most cost effective backlink service Take care. Jason

I just found this post through I Heart Organizing's post. Nice job on the pantry!

I have the exact same pantry cabinet in my kitchen, and I've been too chicken to paint inside with chalkboard paint. This post was just what I needed...thanks for the heads-up on the contact paper!

P.S. You're a brave woman, keeping syrup and oil on the bottom shelf! I have a 4, 2, and 1 year old. Oil on the bottom shelf would give my children a wonderful, indoor slip n slide! ;)

Funny you should say that Dawn, yesterday I had left the pantry open on accident and syrup was everywhere and got tracked all over the kitchen from little feet. I do have child locks on the pantry though, they just don't help when I accidentally leave them open ;)
